Today’s lifestyles mean that people out and about more. People expect to be able to get instant access to information from wherever they are, whether for business or leisure purposes. Consequently, the use of WAP all around the world has become very popular. WAP has evolved since the early days of its existence. Whereas once upon a time you could only use specific WAP sites through your network provider’s own browser and site, now you can use third party browsers that can retrieve pages from the internet and transpose them into WAP enabled data for viewing on the small mobile phone or PDA screen.
There are numerous mobile internet browsers, most handsets come with the manufacturer’s default browser but users can still install a different one if they choose.
Default browsers set by the main companies include:

- Firefox for Mobile, used by Nokia
- Internet Explorer Mobile for Windows Phone 7
